How to Make the flowers

Part One:

  • After you make the shaving cream paint, set out the paint, one paintbrush for each color of paint, and three or four sheets of white cardstock. I put everything on a big sheet of butcher block paper.
  • Paint! You don’t have to worry about it being pretty… that is the point. It is supposed to be messy. Your kids are supposed to mix colors together. That is part of the fun! Of course, I had fun helping Sweet Pea paint as well. Why not, right?

Now we are just getting crazy up in here!

After you have made all the mess you can handle (hopefully with fully painted sheets of paper), extract the painted paper from the rest of the paint goo, and let it dry. I put the wet paper on sheets of cardboard.

Part Two:

  • After the painted paper is dry, it will look like this. I just love the texture from the shaving cream.

  • Turn the paper over so the painted side is down, and trace various flower shapes. At first I used some foam flower shapes I had. However, I quickly realized that the cutest flowers were the ones I would draw free hand.

  • Glue a pompom to the center of each flower (ok, not the tulips… but the other flowers).

  • Take one each of the dark and light green stems. Twist them together to form one, two-colored stem. The ‘reinforced’ stem helps the flowers stand on their own.

  • Glue the stem to the back of the flower. For stability, I tried to glue as much of the ‘stem’ to the flower as possible.
  • Trim the stem as needed.
