Armor of God Bible Class Crafts for Kids: Shield of Faith Wall Hanging

Out of all the Armor of God Bible Class Crafts for Kids I made with the campers I taught this summer, I think I am the most pleased with how the Shield of Faith Wall Hangings turned out. Like many of the crafts we made during the camping session, I pretty much set up the craft and let the girls get creative. However, the girls really made some colorful and inventive wall hangings. I hope they cherish them for years to come. Read on to see how we made them!

Materials Needed:

Affiliate links included for your convenience.

  • 8×10″ white canvas
  • Acrylic paint– assorted colors
  • paintbrushes, multiple brushes per color
  • paint containers (I used paper bowls), 1 for each color
  • squeezable Glitter glue
  • markers or sharpies
  • Cardstock or construction paper
  • scissors
  • pencil or pen
  • smocks

Craft Set up:

  • Create a shield template by drawing a shield shape on the cardstock. When you get a ‘shield’ you like, cut it out. Trace and cut out as many as you need. They are easy to make, so I made a template for each girl.
  • Get the paint, smocks, and glitter glue ready. You may also want to have water and towels (paper or otherwise) on hand for quick clean up; especially since this craft uses acrylic paint.

How to Make the Shield of Faith Wall Hangings:

  • Trace the outline of the shield onto the canvas.
  • Before any painting occurs, put on the smocks.
  • As with many of the crafts I made with the campers, I instructed the girls to put a word or picture like God, faith, love, hope, the cross, etc.. on the shield part of the canvas.
  • Once the ‘faithful’ word is written on the shield, let the kids get creative with the paint and glitter glue.
  • The shields will need about 1/2 a day to dry, so don’t make this craft on the last day.

Didn’t they turn out great? I loved seeing how creative the girls got, and all of their shields are just so pretty!

Come back in a few days for the last craft in this series: the sword of the spirit locker magnets!

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

  1. Faith firmly established in the mind and heart of an 8-year old is a goal so, so worthy. So glad that you had a positive teaching and molding these precious minds this summer!
