One Simple Thing You Can Do Today to Boost Your Mood

Inside: Boost Your Mood today with this simple idea that won’t cost you a dime!

I really just needed a little pick me up.

I needed something to put a smile on my face that didn’t involve excessive chocolate, or my credit card, or smashing plates and wine glasses (I hear that is excellent stress relief.. but have never tried it). Lately, it seemed like it was just easier to be in a bad mood.

The news was always depressing… that wasn’t going to change.

Being a Mom can be awesome, but at the same time it tends to drain the life right out of you.

And honestly, some seasons of life involve more rain, less rainbows.

So, one night as my husband put our daughter to bed, I changed into my house uniform– a big over-sized sweatshirt, fluffy socks, and very stretchy yoga pants, popped some delicious buttery popcorn, and sunk into the couch with my feet propped up on the raggedy ‘pleather’ ottoman. And I started brainstorming ‘pick me up’ ideas.

happy

I recalled one time in college when I had shredded a stack of magazines to make a ‘motivational scrapbook.’ I got lost in the process of finding pretty photos, inspirational quotes, and emphatic declarations. I cut them all out and then arranged them in a pretty scrapbook, getting more and more excited with every completed page of the book (I have a feeling the distinct smell of rubber cement didn’t hurt either). The finished product was glorious. It wasn’t just that I had created this unique motivational ‘pick me up.’

It actually worked.

If I had a stressful day or or was a little bummed I thumbed through this book and always felt better afterwards.

Always.

Unfortunately, that book had long since been relegated to the trash heap. If I had unlimited time I could probably have recreated it.. but who am I kidding?

  • Who has that kind of time?
  • If I started the project, how long before my daughter would decorate it with her princess stickers and purple marker?
  • Do craft stores even sell rubber cement anymore?

Fortunately, there is a much easier way!

The One Simple Thing You Can Do Today to Boost Your Mood

Create a mood board on Pinterest!

That night on my couch, I started collecting happiness, one click at a time. Before long I had made a super happy virtual scrapbook full of happy photos, inspirational quotes, and fun memes. Does this sound like an interesting idea to you?

Here is how to make your Happy Mood Board on Pinterest

  • Login to Pinterest and create your own ‘happy’ board. Name it whatever you want. I named mine ‘Be Happy.’
  • Your happy board will automatically be public so anyone can see it. However, if you want this to be your secret board, just make the board private.
  • Start hunting for joy on Pinterest! Use the search function to start pinning anything and everything that suits your fancy. Some keywords that I used include:
    • Happy, Happiness
    • Sunshine
    • Giggle
    • Laughing, Laugh
    • Joy, Joyful
    • Puppies, Kittens, Baby animals
    • Sunflowers
    • Beauty
    • Inspire
    • Smile
    • Fun
    • Cute
    • Dance
    • Splash
    • Enthusiasm
    • Bliss

I love my Pinterest ‘Be Happy’ Boost Your Mood board so much. It is a quick pick me up that I carry just about everywhere I have my smartphone. Some of the photos are incredibly pretty.. some of them are joyfully infectious. (I include an entire section on people and animals laughing. You can’t not smile when you see it!)

And the best part? This little ‘pick me up’ won’t add to my waistline, won’t hurt my credit score… and I will still be able to pull out the fine china this year at Thanksgiving.

I hope you create your own mood board today!

Thanks for reading,
Sara
